Every week across Vion and neighboring communes, DES MOTS ET MERVEILLES deploys volunteer-led reading sessions, sensory children's storytimes, adult literacy mentoring, and mobile book distribution. All events listed on this agenda are 100% free of charge, require no mandatory paid registration, and welcome residents of all generations.

1. "Les Petites Merveilles" • Early Childhood Awakening

Targeting infants, toddlers, and young children aged 0 to 6, this program provides interactive sensory reading hours accompanied by parents, grandparents, and childminders. Through fabric books, board albums, and melodic rhymes, infants develop linguistic curiosity and phonological awareness long before entering formal primary school.

Sessions are held every Wednesday afternoon in the Salle Communale in Vion. Our facilitators prioritize comfort, joy, and emotional security, turning book handling into a delightful natural habit for rural families.

2. "Passerelles Intergénérationnelles" • Senior-Youth Salons

This initiative pairs elderly residents from Vion and surrounding hamlets with youth from local schools and recreational clubs. Together, they read historical memoirs, illustrated regional folklore, and contemporary fiction. The sessions dissolve age barriers, alleviate senior social isolation, and nurture mutual respect.

In 2026, sessions are expanded to include oral history recording, where young people transcribe rural memories shared by elders into handmade booklets that are preserved in the communal archives.

3. "L'Atelier des Mots" • Adult Foundational Literacy

Many adult residents in rural France struggle with complex administrative vocabularies, digital tax portals, and written contracts. Our adult literacy circle provides confidential, dignified, one-on-one and small group coaching led by experienced educators.

Operating without tests or academic pressure, this program enables adult participants to regain linguistic confidence, improve writing fluency, and obtain independence in both daily domestic life and professional environments.

4. "Boîtes à Merveilles" • Traveling Hamlet Book Crates

To ensure literature reaches residents who cannot easily visit the village center, our volunteers rotate wooden transport crates stocked with curated paperbacks, large-print editions, and nature chronicles across rural points in Vion and adjoining communes.

Books circulate freely based on trust. Citizens can borrow a book without formal library cards, deposits, or late fees, and return it or swap it for another title at their own pace.
